Kathryn Meltzer, PA, Neurology – MUSC Health

I was fortunate
enough to actually have been born here in
Charleston, South Carolina, at MUSC. I was born and
raised here, and I chose to stay here both for
undergraduate and graduate school. I went to the
College of Charleston and then went to physician
assistant school here at MUSC. And the experience that I
had both as a patient here and as a student
here was so rewarding that I knew I wanted
to come back and work with the same people who both
taught me and treated me. The most important
thing to me is forming a patient relationship. I find that not only is
it important for patients to understand their diagnosis,
but for patients to be involved in the treatment process. I like for patients
to be fully educated about all of their
treatment options, and for the treatment
plan that we choose to be both a decision that I
agree with as well as something that the patient
is on board with. I was specifically
trained in the fields of multiple
sclerosis, headaches, and trigeminal neuralgia. I particularly enjoy
the treatment management as they can be complex, and it
can require different treatment plans for each patient. MUSC is known to be one of the
top hospitals, which is one of the great things about MUSC. But what I found
to be most valuable is that the physicians
here treat each patient as an individual. They look at each patient
as a unique person, and they treat
their special case. They don’t look at
just the diagnosis, but they also take into
account other factors that may be affecting their life.
