How to Bleed a Radiator – British Gas

Hello I’m Tony Jones, a British Gas engineer I’m going to show you how to bleed
a radiator. Firstly we need to see if the radiator is cold at the top or the bottom. If it’s cold at the top that means there’s air in the system so we will need to bleed the radiator. To do this, first turn off your central
heating then put a rag underneath the valve to
catch any water Turn the radiator key anti-clockwise about a quarter turn until the air stops and the water runs smoothly, then turn the valve off. Turn the system back on and your problem should be solved however if it’s cold at the bottom you
may have to build up a sludge. Sludge forms like a mountain inside your radiator the sludge is produced by air, water and
metal mixing if you find you have cold spots continuously at the bottom of your radiators you will need to call one of our engineers out. If you are having problems with this and would like to book one of our engineers
