HIGH TENSION WIRE BASIC TEST USING MULTIMETER ENGLISH SUB “CC”


GOOD DAY GUYS! TODAY I AM GOING TO TEACH YOU BASIC HIGH TENSION WIRE TESTING I’LL BE USING A MULTITESTER AND NOT ON THE CAR THAT IS WHY I CALLED IT BASIC TESTING WE WILL MEASURE THE RESISTANCE OF EACH CORD SO JUST A SHORT BRIEFING THE SPARK PLUGS REQUIRED 25 THOUSAND VOLTS AND UP TO CREATE GOOD SPARK IF THE VOLTAGE IS LOWER IT’S EITHER IT WONT SPARK OR IT CAN ONLY CREATE WEAK SPARK SO IT WILL RESULT TO ENGINE MISFIRE SO ONE OF THE POSSIBLE REASON WHY THERE IS A WEAK SPARK OR NO SPARK AT ALL IS BECAUSE OF THE HIGH TENSION WIRE THE STANDARD FOR THE HIGH TENSION WIRE IS IT’S RESISTANCE MUST BE LESS THAN 25K OHMS SO IF THE RESISTANCE IS HIGHER THAN 25K OHMS THE CURRENT THAT WILL FLOW WILL BE WEAKER ON THIS HIGH TENSION WIRE SO THE ELECTRICITY GIVEN TO THE SPARK PLUG IS NOT ENOUGH AND IT WILL BE THE REASON FOR A MISFIRE SO I’LL BE USING 2 TESTER AN ANALOG AND A DIGITAL SO WHICHEVER YOU HAVE YOU CAN USE IT BECAUSE I WILL TEACH YOU ON BOTH MULTITESTER HOW TO DO THE TEST LET’S START WITH DIGITAL FIRST SO THIS IS MY DIGITAL MULTITESTER THIS ONE I THE OHMS I WILL JUST SET THE SELECTOR SINCE THOUSANDS OF RESISTANCE WILL BE MEASURED IT WILL ONLY EXCEED THE 200 MARK SO I’LL BE USING 2K AT THE SELECTOR SO ANY MEASUREMENT SHOWN MEANS IT IS STILL IN THE RANGE OF 2K OHMS BECAUSE IF IT EXCEED 2K OHMS IT WILL SHOW ERROR LET’S START THE LONGEST HIGH TENSION WIRE IN THE TOYOTA 4K ENGINE IS THE ONE FROM THE IGNITION COIL GOING TO THE DISTRIBUTOR WE WILL JUST CONNECT THE TEST LEADS THERE IS NO POLARITY SINCE WE ARE MEASURING THE RESISTANCE POLARITY IS NOT NECESSARY JUST CLIP THE LEADS TO HT WIRE’S END THEN THE TESTER WILL SHOW A RESULT THAT’S 1850+ OHMS 1800 ohms ITS RESISTANCE IT MEANS THIS CORD IS GOOD ITS ABILITY TO TRANSFER CURRENT IS STRONG SO THIS HIGH TENSION WIRE PASSED NEXT IS THIS 4 HIGH TENSION WIRES THIS IS CONNECTED FROM DISTRIBUTOR GOING TO THE SPARK PLUGS WE WILL TEST THIS ONE BY ONE THE BOOT IS MOVABLE SO IN CASE THE TIP IS TOO DEEP YOU CAN MOVE THE BOOT CLIP THIS ONE AND ON THE OTHER END 1035 OHMS SO THE RESISTANCE IS ALSO LOW SO IT MEANS THIS ALSO PASSED NEXT HIGH TENSION WIRE 1100…… 1150 OHMS IT IS STILL WITHIN THE RANGE LESS THAN 25K OHMS SO ITS ABILITY TO TRANSFER CURRENT IS STILL STRONG 1100… 40 1140 OHMS THIS IS ALSO GOOD THIS IS ALSO IN GOOD CONDITION LAST ONE 1000… 44 1044 OHMS SO ALL OF OUR HIGH TENSION WIRE IS RANGING FROM 1000 OHMS TO OUR HIGHEST BEFORE IS 1800 OHMS SO ALL OF THEM IS LESS THAN 25K OHMS SO ALL OF THEM PASSED AND GOOD CONDUCTOR SO NEXT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ANALOG TESTER I WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO TEST THE HIGH TENSION WIRES THIS TESTER CAN’T STAND BY ITSELF IF YOU CAN NOTICE THAT THE ANALOG HAS ARM THIS IS THE OHMS IF YOU CAN NOTICE IT HAVE MULTIPLIER x1 x10 x100 x1000 x100k SO BEFORE. WHEN WE MEASURE OUR HIGH TENSION WIRE USING A DIGITAL TESTER THE READING IS ABOUT 1K OHMS AND UP ALL OF OUR HIGH TENSION WIRES NOW I WILL PUT THE SELECTOR AT X1000 WE WILL NOT START IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE ANALOG TESTERS HAVE “ZERO OHM ADJUSTER” YOU NEED TO CONNECT THE TEST LEADS TO EACH OTHER THEN MAKE SURE THAT THE POINTER IS AT “ZERO” THE TESTER’S ARM SO IF NOT AT ZERO JUST TURN THIS TO CORRECT THE POINTER BECAUSE IF NOT CORRECTED IF NOT AT ZERO THE ZERO OHM ADJUSTER THE MEASUREMENT WILL NOT BE ACCURATE LET’S GO BACK TO THE CORDS AND MEASURE HOW MUCH RESISTANCE WHEN WE USE ANALOG TESTER SO BEFORE THIS MEASURE 1800 OHMS AT THE ANALOG TESTER WE WILL SEE THE RESISTANCE IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN THE TESTER IS NOT FACING ME IT IS AT 1. …. 7 1.7 X1000 THAT’S 1700 SO SINCE WE ARE USING ANALOG OF COURSE WE WILL HAVE A LITTLE DIFFERENCE ON MEASUREMENT USING DIGITAL AND ANALOG SO THERE’S NO PROBLEM BECAUSE WHAT WE MEASURE HERE IS IF THE RESISTANCE IS BELOW 25K OHMS OF EACH HUGH TENSION WIRE SO BOTH TESTER MEASURES 1K OHMS UP LESS THAN 2K OHMS TO TESTER SHOWS THAT THIS HIGH TENSION WIRE IS GOOD 1.1 IT IS NOT CLEARLY SEEN AT THE VIDEO OKAY THAT’S 1.1 THAT’S 1100 OHMS STILL IN RANGE 1.1 OR 1.2 RATHER 1200 OHMS THIS ALSO PASSED IN OUR ANALOG TESTER NEXT OK THAT’S 1.1 1100 OHMS ALSO SO 1.1 X 1000 AT SELECTOR IT’S 1100 OHMS 1.1 ALSO THAT;’S ALSO 1100 OHMS THIS ALSO PASSED LAST LAST HIGH TENSION WIRE 1.1 1.1. ONE THOUSAND 0NE HUNDRED OHMS BOTH ANALOG AND DIGITAL TESTER SHOWS OUR HT WIRES ALL PASSED THAT’S HOW WE TEST THE HIGH TENSION WIRE. BUT THERE’S A “BUT” BECAUSE NOT JUST BECAUSE THEY ALL PASSED THE RESISTANCE TEST IT ALREADY MEANS THAT IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION NEXT THING TO CHECK IS IT;’S PHYSICAL APPEARANCE CHECK THEM ONE BY ONE IF THERE ARE CRACK CUTS RAT BITES. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS ANY DAMAGE AT THE WIRE NEEDS TO BE CHECKED BECAUSE ANY DAMAGE WILL CAUSE ELECTRICITY LEAK SO THE CURRENT WILL DECREASE GOING TO THE SPARK PLUGS SO EVEN IT PASSED THE RESISTANCE TEST BUT IT HAVE CRACKS CUT OR ANY DAMAGE ON THE WIRE IT CAN AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HIGH TENSION WIRE IF IT PASSED THE RESISTANCE TEST AND ALSO THE PHYSICAL APPEARANCE I GUARANTEE YOU THAT YOUR HT WIRES ARE PERFECTLY WORKING JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE TIPS BOTH ENDS ARE CLEAN IT SHOULD BE ALL CLEAN THAT’S ALL THE TIP I CAN GIVE YOU ON TESTING THE HT WIRES THANK YOU

  3. Sir pwede din ba na matest ko ang vacuum advancer Kung tanggalin ko ung hose sa may carb at bubuksan ko ung distributor cap at sisipsipin ko ung hose na nakakabit sa vacuum ay gagalaw ung lever ng advancer ay buo pa ang vacuum.

    ito reading sir.
    htw#1 = 1.085
    htw#2 = 1.126
    htw#3 = 7.85
    htw#4 = 6.90
    ignition coil = 7.55
    ok kaya ganyan reading sir

  15. Doc maraming salamat sa mga info na share mo.. Correction lang po. Hindi po 1 thousand ohms.
    1.7 ohms. Lang dapat . Parang continuity lang po… sana makatulong..

Sir maganda umaga po ako po ay nahingi ng payo san po cra pag nawala po ang koryente sa Distributor papunta sa sprt plug ginawa ko po ung pag test ng ignition n ginawa nyo my koryente nman pero pag pina start ko n wala xa koryente padin 4k po ang engine dpo kaya ignaiter ang cra o sa linya po ng wire ring..

  21. sir, tanong lang po. cylinder #1 & #3 pag naka angat ang cable my kuryente ang spark plug, bumibilis menor,dinig yung spark
    pero pag binaon ng husto ang cable, nde nagana,
    mga 1 month na yung spark plug, hi tension cable.

  22. boss pag nasa 10 ung kamay ng analog multi meter ilan ang reading nya..ok paba ganun na reading sa high tension wire.
