After the glucose challenge test (GCT) in third month of pregnancy, I discovered that I have gestational diabetes. I was a bit anxious about it as I didn’t have diabetes before the pregnancy. But when I came here, I didn’t have anything to worry about anymore! The whole team kept a close eye on me with close monitoring and regular checkups. I followed their timely advice properly. I was referred to the diabetic centre, where they monitored my blood-sugar levels using a glucometer. Based on that, I was given a diet chart, medicines and insulin was also prescribed. The dietician demonstrated how to use insulin, it wasn’t that tough! I was very doubtful about insulin because of few myths, which they answered and debunked for me. My gestational diabetes was managed well thanks to the diet chart, exercise and timely advice by the doctors. They used to email the check-up schedule to us, the diabetologists were very considerate and concerned. I think the team made GDM manageable. The team’s suggestions for GDM are long-term oriented. It’s not about controlling your blood sugar levels for the time being and then sending you away. Their main motto is to keep you away from diabetes in the long-run. The teamwork of this hospital is amazing – each doctor is equally focussed and supportive. I am happy that I trusted this hospital, cause towards the end I gave up but the hospital didn’t and I had a normal delivery, which is a big achievement for me.
