I love oatmeal any time of day. Good quality oats make all the difference to me. I understand any form is equally beneficial whether it is whole oats, steel cut, or flaked into any level of normal or quick oats but each person I think finds what they like. My favorite is whole oats that I flake myself with an oat flaker and cook immediately with all the freshness. I guess I am like a coffee snob but with oats and I like mine a certain way. 🙂 Don’t forget about savory oats too. They are outstanding.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I've always wondered about the continued reuse of these pictures that show the reversal of coronary heart disease. It's like that one Bigfoot picture you kept seeing over and over again. I would imagine there "must be" other imagery to show the curative effects of a WFPB diet on coronary heart disease and the arterial congestion it causes. "Right?" (This is a real question. Not trying to be a d-bag troll.)

It’s ridiculous how I easy it is to consume fibre. I don’t remember a day that I didn’t overshoot my daily target. By one o’clock I already have50-60% of my daily requirement. It seems one has to go out of their way not to get fibre.
If the number one cause of premature death is heart disease what would people die of if they lived to be 100 or greater? And if they die from heart disease after a certain age is that added into the statistics for heart disease?

You showed pics from Dr Esselstyn’s patients diet results. However, this vegan diet required no oils, no meat no dairy and a maximum of 10% of fat calories. A bowl of oatmeal and a kale salad is not going to get those results

I'm about to experiment with the Daily Dozen. I've been keto for over a year and had good results, but have since plateaued. There is certainly some mutually agreed upon evidence; refined sugars are terrible, and it's important to eat more leafy greens. Am I going to be against meat? No, I think the quality is what's important for those who can access it; such as wild (grass fed) and wild fish.

Years ago, I went on a liquid diet, and as a result, I was constipated. To try and "fix" this, I purchased and added fiber to my drink. It did not work, which brings me to believe that the sum of the parts is not equal to the whole.

I eat quite some oatmeal a day, average around 300-400 grams a day. On chronometer I see that my manganese intake is pretty high above the daily recommended dosage a day, mainly because of the oatmeal. I read that a high manganese intake over a long period of time can cause neurological problems, Parkinson,… Should I be worried and replace half of the oatmeal intake by something else?

Happy to hear this since I switched to daily oatmeal (from "healthy" boxed cereal) a decade ago. (And I eat 3x the normal serving size of oats.) But — I wish this video and some others from NuritionFacts were more specific instead of just saying "whole grains". That's because to the Average Joe or Jane, "whole grains" does not mean oatmeal, but rather cereals, breads, crackers, and pastas misleadingly marketed as "whole grain". While I'm sure those processed products that might contain some "whole grain" flour and maybe some tiny seeds are better than just eating white flour based products, they are far from being as beneficial to heart and brain health as plain oatmeal, barley, buckwheat, rye, etc. Part of the reason oatmeal is beneficial is that it's relatively low glycemic and good for digestion, unlike even "whole grain" wheat. So, I'm happy that you mention oatmeal in your title and a few times in the video, but overall I think using the phrase "whole grains" can be misleading to people who don't know what that really includes.

I've been taking Co-Enzyme Q10 for decades, possibly for well over 25 years. I am a retired Critical Care RN and I found some of the info to be over my head in spite of my training and education post graduation. That said, I have to say it is one of the most valuable books I've ever read. My husband has non-ischemic cardiomyopathy secondary to a viral infection. He's had some medical issues recently after a 7 yr benign course. All of his MDs have been amazed by his ability to carry on with his daily activities such as building a room on the house, bush-hogging acreage with his 40 HP tractor, taking care of 2 homes and a pecan orchard. He's never needed supplemental oxygen despite an ejection fraction of 20-25. I decided to have a look at what this doctor had to say. Most drugs given for this problem relate to the muscle function as a whole, not to the cellular function of the muscle tissue. This book addresses the cellular function. Those of you who took biology may remember the Krebs cycle as well as ATP and mitochondrial function. That's what this is all about.
Bottom line is that Dr Sinatra recommends 4 supplements to improve cardiac health: CoEnzyme Q10, l-carnitine, magnesium and d-ribose. My husband had been on CoQ10 since 1991 for oral health (his dentist died. New dentist looked at old chart & thought he was looking at a different patient). He has also been taking magnesium for 15 yrs or so. Both of these contributed, I feel, to the fact that he functions at a higher level than would be expected for his ejection fraction (the % of blood pumped out thru the aorta from the left ventricle of the heart). Normal EF is 55-65%.If you know someone who has difficulty functioning because of heart disease, this would be a good book to read and try the supplements. They are all over the counter and do not react with any prescription meds that I have been able to discover. I mentioned this book to one of my husband's MDs (nephrologist) and he wrote down the name of it and asked the nurse to order a copy for the office. There are many references in the book to various studies and the journals they were reported in. I checked some of them and all were exactly as quoted. I bought the Kindle version because it was cheaper but plan on getting a hard copy for other members of my family to read since I'm NOT loaning out my much loved Kindle!
UPDATE 4/22/16: I just found out from the nephrologist's office RN, a friend of mine, that he really did buy the book; read it and is now recommending the 4 supplements to all his pts who have cardiac disease. Since then I have purchased a complete set of the nutrients and had them sent to a close friend who also has cardiomyopathy from an MI. I will continue to make sure both hubby & friend stay on this combo as long as they are alive. Can't wait to see what Dec. scheduled ECHO will show on hubby.
UPDATE 12/31/2016: Just got back from Houston where hubby had another ECHO done. Reading by same MD as in Feb 2016 shows an increase of his Ejection Fraction to 30%. Prior ECHOs had all been about the same as listed above. This is the first improvement since 2009 when he was diagnosed. The only real change was the addition of the 4 nutrients. All the rest of his meds have been maintenance for many years. All I can say is that after 52 yrs of marriage, I'm not letting him get out of this marriage if I can help it! LOL

Reversal is for young plaque not old. Most of the effects are better dilation rather than clearing so you have to be very meticulous about the diet and lifestyle. And short term improvements of dilation can easily disappear. So you have to have a very clear sense of the condition or you can get yourself in trouble.
I have no trouble meeting my RDA of fiber and I still eat meat. Studies show that consumption of eggs, lean meats, and low fat dairy doesn't clog your arteries at all. They've also shown that consumption of fish unclogs your arteries more than just plants alone.
