Dr. Gul H. Dadlani – Pediatric Cardiologist at Nemours Cardiac Center in Florida

[MUSIC PLAYING] I got into pediatric cardiology,
because I had a sister that was born with a heart defect. Today, she’s doing
well, married has kids, and is an adult congenital
heart disease survivor. I couldn’t think of
anything better to do than be a pediatric
cardiologist. It’s fun, and I
enjoy it every day. Every patient that
we take care of, I really try to treat as
if they were my own child. So every family that comes
in, we spend extra time. We talk about their disease. I try to leave every family
with a picture of their heart disease, what things they’re
going to need to think about, not only today, but over
their child’s whole lifetime. I take care of patients
that have cardiomyopathies, which are abnormalities
of the heart muscle. So sometimes our heart muscle
can be too thick, or too thin, where we can have heart
failure from that, or we can have a condition
called pulmonary hypertension, where the pressures are
too high in the lungs, and that can cause
right heart failure. The hospital is a freestanding
Children’s Hospital. And it is uniquely equipped
to handle a patient with complex cardiac disease. We have a nine bed cardiac ICU. We have dedicated
cardiac operating room, dedicated cardiac cath
lab, electrophysiology lab. We have advanced
cardiac imaging. So we’re really capable of
taking care of congenital heart disease patients from the
womb all way to adulthood. The most important thing that I
would like our families to know is that we are
focused on your child, making sure that your child has
the best pediatric specialty care possible. [MUSIC PLAYING]
